What we are doing

"Pathways 2020 will promote and improve the health and well being of Cowlitz County by fostering community partnerships that provide the fabric and support each person needs to be a healthy and contributing member of the community."

Current ongoing projects include:

  • Increasing access to prenatal care
  • Reducing tobacco use
  • Designing a countywide domestic violence law enforcement unit
  • Supporting afterschool programs for children and teens
  • Developing training for the future workforce.
  • Substance abuse prevention

Another group working on issues from the Community Report Card are Champions.
Champions are individuals or organizations who have stepped forward to develop strategies to improve one of the indicators. For example, Dr Travis Cavens and Parents Place created a locally designed project called 100% Immunizations to raise the percentage of children under two years who complete their series of immunizations. Their work as Champions moved that level from 55 percent to 93 percent of children being immunized.

Pathways 2020 and its community partners have undertaken two
significant projects.

MAPP - Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnership
Pathways 2020 has partnered with the Cowlitz County Health Department to take a long term and strategic look at public health issues. MAPP is a community process to look at current public health services, missing or deficient services, community perceptions on the quality of life, and planning with action steps to address these public health issues. Pathways 2020 has been conducting a countywide survey on people's perceptions on the quality of life in Cowlitz County. This report will be distributed in the summer of 2002 and is one of the milestones for the MAPP process. The overarching goal for Pathways 2020 is to address public health issues that impact economic development in Cowlitz County.
